桑德羅‧波提切利（Sandro Botticelli）是歐洲文藝復興早期最享負盛名的畫家之一，以人物肖像及神話宗教為繪畫題材見稱，作品體現了十五至十六世紀的歐洲藝術文化特色。過往若要親眼觀賞他的畫作，須專程到意大利烏菲茲美術館，但從明天起到下年二月，到香港藝術館的「波提切利與他的非凡時空──烏菲茲美術館珍藏展」，就可看到部份波提切利及其他同期大師的重要作品。

香港藝術館為今次展覽，從意大利烏菲兹美術館及其他機構借得四十多件珍貴館藏。展覽展品包括桑德羅‧波提切利、菲利普‧利皮（Filippo Lippi）及其他同期大師的畫作，題材主要為人物肖像及宗教繪畫。這一系列畫作反映的不只是當時文藝復興蓬勃發展的活力與精神，更及委託人之於文藝復興的重要性，從中可見當年美第奇家族（Medici Family）與文人圈子如何合力推動新時代新思潮。
十四世紀末，意大利佛羅倫斯孕育了一場長達兩個世紀、名為「文藝復興」（Renaissance）的思潮運動，大幅改變歐洲藝術文化面貌。在文藝復興時期，人們重拾對古希臘和羅馬時期古典文化的興趣，以重視人性、探索創意、追求真理的態度，於哲學、藝術及科學研究等各個覺疇中，實踐人文主義精神。而歷史悠久位於意大利佛羅倫斯烏菲茲美術館，則收藏了大量文藝復興時期的重要作品。

是次香港藝術館借得的展品中，雖然沒有最有名的《維納斯的誕生》（The Birth of Venus），但也有為世人所熟知的《三王朝聖》（又名「拉瑪的朝拜」），此畫讓他在歐洲聲名大噪，也因此於1481年被教皇傳召到羅馬，為西斯汀禮拜堂繪畫壁畫。另外，許多幅展品亦是以「聖母與聖子」（Madonna and Child）為題，是波提切利最畫得最多的宗教題材。
除了珍貴館藏，香港藝術館策展團隊亦邀請了本地設計及插畫師蕭劍英與他的團隊特別為展覽創作插圖與動畫，為香港觀眾輕鬆拆解展品背後的歷史文化、視覺語言及哲學思想。
